Onini Singers

Onini is the plural form of "sound (oni)" in Siraya, one of the plains indigenous peoples (Pingpu) in Taiwan. Founded in 1997, the Onini Singers has transformed into an exquisite small group consisting of three generational members of the community.  In order to revitalize the Siraya culture, Onini’s songs are mostly written in Siraya’s native language, including choral classics, nursery rhymes, ballad duets, ancient tunes and adaptations. Onini Singers presents the beauty of human voices in various forms and mostly accompanied with guitar, piano, unique nose flute and bamboo instruments. We specialise musical improvisation and a cappella. In addition, we learn and share various experiences in different music from the Taiwanese ethnic groups and other countries. We often voice our concerns over the past years about the changes of the culture, landscape and Ecosystem in Taiwan. Furthermore, we sing our various songs in an attempt to raise Siraya’s voices to the world.
