WELCOME ADDRESS

We would like to welcome you to the 6th Symposium of the ICTM Study Group on Performing Arts of Southeast Asia (PASEA) hosted by the Tainan National University of the Arts and sponsored by the Taiwan Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture. The 6th Symposium opens on 29 July as PASEA’s first all virtual symposium. Despite the hardships endured during the ongoing pandemic, the Local Arrangements Committee has been able to coordinate its resources to prepare what we hope will be a smooth operating virtual symposium. We have ensured that technical support units as well as online platforms for hosting asynchronous and live paper and panel sessions will operate effectively and efficiently.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to the Executive Committee of ICTM-PASEA for selecting the Tainan National University of the Arts as the site for the 6th Symposium of the ICTM Study Group on Performing Arts of Southeast Asia (PASEA). We would like to assure you that the Local Arrangements Committee will work closely with the Program Committee throughout our week-long event in order to ensure the success of the 6th Symposium of the ICTM Study Group on Performing Arts of Southeast Asia (PASEA).

Much appreciation goes to the Program Committee Co-chairs Prof. Dr. Made Mantle Hood and Dr. Marie-Pierre Lissoir for scheduling Papers, Round Tables, Panels, Lightning Papers and three Films as well as the ICTM-PASEA General Meeting. This was no easy task as they had to take into consideration all the numerous time zones because participants will be tuning in from literately all across the globe!

We hope this symposium, although not face-to-face, will produce stimulating and highly engaging conversations between scholars, practitioners, and students in academic and scholarly research on the Performing Arts of Southeast Asia.

Sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Tsung-te Tsai

Chair, Local Arrangements Committee PASEA 2021
